A Safe Solution for Managing Hydrocephalus and Brain Pressure
The human brain is surrounded by a fluid called Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) that protects and nourishes it. Sometimes, this fluid doesn’t drain properly and builds up inside the brain — a condition known as Hydrocephalus. This can cause increased pressure, headaches, vomiting, vision problems, and even unconsciousness if left untreated.
At Sai Sankararao Brain Spine & Neuro Clinic, we treat this condition effectively through CSF Diversion Surgery, most commonly using a Ventriculo-Peritoneal (V-P) Shunt.
A Ventriculo-Peritoneal Shunt is a small, flexible tube system surgically placed to divert excess CSF from the brain to the abdominal cavity, where it can be absorbed safely by the body. This helps in relieving pressure on the brain and preventing damage.
The shunt consists of:
A ventricular catheter placed in the brain
A valve to control flow
A distal catheter that drains fluid to the abdomen
Hydrocephalus (congenital or acquired)
Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH)
Post-traumatic or post-infectious CSF build-up
Brain tumors causing fluid blockage
